Pink Blob

Give your child an action they can do, instead of asking them  to stop a behavior or inhibit an impulse.

Always tell them what they should do, not what they shouldn’t.

#1

Instead of saying "don’t run" try  — "use your walking feet."

@drashleysoderlund

Example

Instead of saying "don’t yell" — try "use your inside voice."

@drashleysoderlund

Example

With young toddlers -- make it funny! Instead of walking feet — say "let’s waddle like a duck."

#2

Toddler impulses are not bad-- they want to run, jump, and play. Refocus those impulses with what they can do.

#3

Instead of saying "don’t jump on the bed, say" —  Try, "you have a lot of jumping energy, jump on these pillows on the floor!"
